255- Monday, Jan 30th

Today in class was all about jump roping. I'd consider myself an average skilled jump roper. It was kind of fun to work with other students to do a unique sequence of jump roping. The video our class watched with girls (firecrackers) performing at the US Naval Academy increased my appreciation for jump roping as a skill, sport, and recreational activity. Leading an activity would be interesting using jump ropes in phys ed. In my opinion, jump roping practices cardiovascular endurance the most. Also, I believe for an average active individual in Physical Education, cardiovascular is close to most important!

Pictures of me in Lab A-2

Check out some pictures of me leading an activity in my 255 class! I made a few mistakes but received some positive feedback too. The TA's and my teacher gave me some advice for my next teaching experience!

Gymnastics Meet at Cortland

Another skill that is very impressive and I admire their skill. Most importantly the progressions, must be countless to be able to perform this skill. Like in P.E progressions are used but these flips and turns, their must have been so many more. Woah!

Experience from Gymnastics Meet at SUNY Cortland

The Gymnastics meet at Cortland was a unique experience. The skill level of the girls was very surprising. I thought to myself how much practice, transitions, and progressions these girls must have gone through their entire life to acquire these skills.

Lab A-2 Video Clip and Thoughts about Improving.

From this teaching experience I learned that it would be much more beneficial to have my equipment with me at the beginning. Rather than during my lesson running over to grab equipment and loosing the attention of the class. With only four minutes using a shorter time to demonstrate so the students have more time to practice would be better perhaps.

255 Class #4.

Today we were given the opportunity to practice Lab A1. One change I decided to make to teach Friday is to lure in the students attention first before they play and I demonstrate. The tag game we played today worked not only on psycho-motor but cognitive skills as well. We had to think about others name and skill they taught from a previous class. Each class I'm sweating pretty well with fun activity. Exercise promotes thinking. My favorite part about class today was practicing being loud during our game about "bugs" in a group lineup! I could raise my voice as loud as I could and let out some stress also with some physical activity today.

255 Third class thoughts

Today, I liked how Professor Yang lured our attention by giving us some information about the Chinese New Year (today). Getting student's attention at the beginning of class sparks motivation for learning. Again, without much equipment the class was moving right at the beginning of class! The type of exercise where the class was active (all out, anaerobic) for 20 seconds, ten seconds rest for eight consecutive rounds was a great workout. Student's would benefit greatly from that while having fun, and that was only eight minutes of the lesson! I'm learning something new each class in 255.

First Time Teaching in 255 (first class)

2nd Class 255

Friday our class learned and played some ultimate Frisbee with a partner. Passing using my forehand is difficult for me, but as the class went on it improved some. Later on we did some Yoga and stretching exercises. By the end of the class I was sweating! This class was interesting because the whole class was moving and getting great exercise without much equipment. Some teachers blame lack of success in P.E because of equipment. Just an excuse! The activity at the end where we had to remember everyone's name and activity in a circle was challenging, but fun! This activity practiced cognitive skills! Many lessons don't emphasize cognitive thinking as much as possible.

255 First Class!

Our first class we had to lead a four minute lesson on the fly with given equipment. I quickly thought of setting and passing using volleyballs. Not many of my peers used the volleyballs, so I decided to do so. I introduced myself, demonstrated the set and pass giving cues. I moved around the group while the students were passing,  giving positive feedback and advice. What I thought I did well was a good demonstration with good advice for technique. What I could have done better was my closure. The four minutes goes fast! Next time i'll be to the point and check how much time I have for my lesson more often. I felt like I ran out of time. There is always room for improvement, even for experienced teachers!
