Lab D Teaching Experience

During my experience teaching Lab D in my class we were giving a twenty minute time frame to teach. I was given the assignment to teach in the pool and had to expand my contacts to set up a time to teach in the pool. It was necessary to receive permission from a Professor Hovey because she teaches a class during our 255 time slot. I had to gain permission not only from her to use the pool, but a man named Jesse Porter. I also had to contact the director of recreational sports. Then I had to arrange a lifeguard to be present and bring in their certifications. Sometimes as teachers, we may have to go way above and beyond to make our lessons work to best benefit our students.

Prior to this lab, I also had to develop a teacher curriculum ( lab packet), task progressions and a adequate lesson plan. During my teaching, behavior problems were present. Some students swam away while I was leading a water aerobics routine. Also, one student was bullying another student using offensive language. I addressed the issues in a professional and stern manner and they were resolved immediately.

In the beginning of my lesson, I gave the students expectations and rules before entering the pool. So when behavior issues became relevant I have the chance to have students sit out or they are extinguished. That gave students a fair, clear waning. While teaching, students should know and respect expectations and rules before the lesson even begins.

An Article I read about High School Kids Willing to Risk Health for Success

This article I read informed me about health risks and young student athletes willing to risk their health and lifespan for short term benefits and life long issues. Young kid's need guidance and correct motivation and positive attitudes of character and integrity. This I found while designing my lesson for Lab D in my 255 teaching class.

Kid's need positive role models. That is my main goal in my teaching career; give kid's positive tools they can use for their lifetime to make the right decisions and have great character.
